Senior Analyst (Discovery)

The Role

The role of Senior Discovery Analyst will lead and conduct in-depth discovery on Crisis Defence and Threat Defence clients, risks and sectors. To aid and support the development of new collection strategies, to create and maintain queries, identify new site sections and oversea ontological maintenance, whilst maintaining very close liaison with RD and Data Collection teams.

This position will play a key role in leading, researching, identifying, investigating and documenting information to be used as intelligence for key stakeholders and to support and mentor the wider Human Intelligence Team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Research and track a range of bad actors to build up intelligence pictures, identifying potential targets through a range of sources, including AI (Artificial Intelligence) Human Intelligence (HUMINT) and Open Source (OSINT) and SOCMINT (Social Media Intelligence)
  • Work collaboratively to prioritise and guide the creation of innovative methodologies to collect data from online platforms and is able to apply platform expertise to advise on access requirements, navigation and functionality etc.
  • Use deep and dark web to horizon scan for new risks/threats
  • Collate and validate intelligence, evaluating the reliability of sources and credibility of information
  • Use static and dynamic analysis techniques to contribute to reporting, and our knowledge base
  • Use various analytical techniques to assess and interpret intelligence data and be able to write and test complex queries on a range of platforms to increase efficiency
  • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues to gather further information to piece together the whole picture
  • Develop relationships with customers to understand their intelligence requirements
  • Produce well-written, well-structured, timely and impactful assessments and internal communications in clear English, with minimal support that meet the requirements of stakeholders
  • Use your knowledge and experience to support, advise and mentor the wider HI team on how to use OSINT/SOCMINT effectively

Essential:

  • Advanced OSINT / SOCMINT Skills
  • Dark Web Skills
  • Investigation / Using Personas /UC skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Social Media Platforms [Functions / Navigation / Access / Requirements etc]
  • Query Writing
  • Reputational Risk
  • Training / Support for Hi analysts
  • Understanding of Risk Detection and Ngrams

Desirable:

  • Cyber/technical background with the ability to research and understand technical elements of online platforms/tools
  • Knowledge and experience working in a social media risk research/ intelligence environment
  • Experience using graph technology or data visualisation software to analyse and manipulate quantitative data
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate large data sets to condense and be used for the production of intelligence reports
  • Experience in public speaking/ formal presentation
  • Additional Language skills
  • Basic knowledge of NEO4J and/or relational databases / ontologies

Skills & Competencies:

  • You’ll have strong knowledge and expertise of the technical aspects of online platforms, and how they can be exploited
  • You will be working on critical and high-risk incidents, so you’ll need to be a natural problem-solver who can prioritise and identify problems and make quick, sound decisions
  • Flexibility and creativity are key, as is a keen interest in data analysis and exploitation
  • You’ll also have a passion for learning and enjoy sharing your knowledge to inform and develop others
  • Enjoy working with a large range of data – analysing, distilling & interpreting it to produce insightful and impactful reports for our customer, use of I2 like presentation tools is desirable.
  • You will be a vital part of a multi-faceted team; needing strong collaboration and negotiation skills, plus a talent for communicating clearly and succinctly, including providing constructive feedback to peers.
  • Able to work with a range of risks and subject matter areas including distressing and graphic material
